The importance of South African coal to the market is impossible to overestimate.

With the continual growth expected on the international markets, the puzzling lack of South African expansion in recent years has been the major driving force behind unprecedented world price levels. But whatever the world is counting on from South Africa, the needs of the country’s own power producers have for a ready supply of reliable, local, competitive coal is paramount to its growth and prosperity.

From the UCG Partnership website,

The UCGP International Conference on Underground Coal Gasification, held each February, is recognised as the definitive conference on UCG. It is attended by those with an active interest in UCG, those wishing to learn more about UCG and those whose skills would compliment and assist in UCG commercial deployment. Last year over 135 senior delegates from 35 countries attended the two day event and we had presentations describing new and existing UCG activities from around the world, plus up to date technical presentations and papers on CO2 sequestration and storage and new developments.
