Please note: The final date for submissions on the E3 Awards Program entry form should have been January 12, 2009. This pdf version has the correct date.

All E3 Award submissions should be in to the ACC by January 12, 2009. We apologize for any confusion.

In this issue, we take a look at the notion of "Sustainable Coal" and demonstrate how today's coal industry is "meeting human needs while conserving the environment."

Through our focus on carbon capture and storage, plug-in hybrid vehicles, energy efficiency initiatives, and coal gasification and super-critical combustion technologies, we look into the science and research of minimizing environmental impacts, improving efficiency, and moves to increase electrical system stability.

We also provide readers with two recent fact sheets and information on our newly reworked E3 Energy Awards program.

This issue also works toward improving the public's understanding of sustainability. The concept of sustainability has, in the past, been misunderstood as applying only to environmental issues. However, we demonstrate that sustainability relates to economic and social issues as well.

We invite you download a copy of this edition of American Coal magazine (pdf format 12 MB). If you are interested in receiving a hard copy of the magazine, or contact the ACC by e-mail or phone 602.769.3872.
