2005 Excellence Award Winners

The ACC Excellence Awards recognize coal industry companies, foundations, associations and individuals that exemplify leadership in public information, energy education and public service.

The American Coal Council was pleased to recognize the hard work and dedication of six companies at the Spring Coal Forum, held May 22-24, 2006 in Birmingham.

The May 23rd Excellence Awards luncheon recognized the efforts of coal and energy industry organizations that have played a significant role in improving their local communities, benefited energy-based education across the country and excelled in their efforts to develop and transmit public information on coal and the energy industry.

ACC Excellence Awards were presented to winners in the following categories:

  • Excellence in the Development of Public Information
    We EnergiesWe Energies Award Winner: Wisconsin Energy - "Power the Future" A state-level information program detailing the benefits of building new coal-fueled generation. Click on the We Energies logo to go to the We Energies "Power the Future web site.

  • Excellence in the Advancement of Energy Education

    National Energy FoundationNational Energy FoundationAward Winner: National Energy Foundation - An organization that has reached tens of thousands of teachers and millions of students with bias-balanced information on mining and energy production.     TXU PowerTXU PowerHonorable Mention: TXU - "Energized Approach to Education" A Texas-based energy utility that has invested itself in educating the community about coal-based energy. Click here to see TXU's submission to the awards program, "An Energized Approach to Education.


  • Excellence in the Advancement Public Service or Community Development

    Arch Coal, Inc.Arch Coal, Inc.Award Winner: Coal-Mac (a subsidiary of Arch Coal) A West Virginia-based company with near "total community involvement." Award judges were impressed with Coal-Mac's extensive list of community and education projects. Click on the Arch Coal logo to vist their web site.

    Arch Coal, Inc.Arch Coal, Inc.Honorable Mention: Thunder Basin Coal (a subsidiary of Arch Coal) A Wyoming coal producer that provided essential emergency services to a town decimated by a tornado. Click on the Arch Coal logo to vist their web site.

The ACC is the pre-eminent voice of the American coal industry. As part of that role, we promote public awareness of organizations that have been unusually effective in educating the public on the impact and importance of the coal industry. Whether through direct public service, the creation of educational programs, or the development of public information, the ACC Excellence Awards recognize the hard work and dedication of those who are improving public knowledge and perception of the coal industry. We offer our congratulations to the dedicated, hard-working people at Wisconsin Energy, Peabody, National Energy Foundation, TXU, Coal-Mac, and Thunder Basin Coal.
